'Viewers' for PDF and Microsoft files
Some of the files on this Moodle site are in formats that require special software - eg Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat. If you have the appropriate software on your computer then these files should open up successfully for you. If you don't have the appropriate programs, the files will either not open at all or will open as 'gobbledegook'. To get round this you can download free 'viewers' for certain types of files. These allow you to see, and print, the files but not change them.
PDF Viewer: For documents in 'PDF format'. To view PDF files you will need to have a PDF viewer on your computer. Most computers have this on already but, if not, you can download it for free from Adobe using the link below:
Microsoft Word Viewer: If you don't have the Word program on your computer, this should allow you to look at Word files anyway.
- Word viewer - this allows you to view files created in Word 2003 and earlier
- Office 2007 compatibility pack - this works with the Word viewer (or Word 2003 if you have it) to allow it to open Word 2007 files
If either of the above links don't work, go to http://www.microsoft.com and type 'Word viewer' or 'compatibility pack' into the search box.
Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer: If you don't have the PowerPoint program on your computer, this should allow you to look at PowerPoint files anyway.
- PowerPoint 2007 viewer (Works with files created in PowerPoint 2007 and earlier)
Note: if you have PowerPoint 2003 on your computer and wish to view PowerPoint 2007 files, you can just download the Office 2007 compatibility pack, above.
If the above link doesn't work, go to http://www.microsoft.com and type 'powerpoint 2007 viewer' into the search box.
Microsoft Excel Viewer: If you don't have the Excel program on your computer, this should allow you to look at Excel files anyway. Caution: this is a very large file so will take a while to download (details are given when you click the link below).
- Excel 2007 viewer (Works with files created in Excel 2007 and earlier)
Note: if you have Excel 2003 on your computer and wish to view Excel 2007 files, you can just download the Office 2007 compatibility pack, above.
If the above link doesn't work, go to http://www.microsoft.com and type 'excel 2007 viewer' into the search box.
