Supporting Adults with Learning Difficulties
1. Resources from NIACE - Nov 09
These resources were developed particularly for workplace support of learners with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities - but may be of wider interest to all tutors. Click the following link to go to the relevant part of the niace website:
The resources consist of two main sections:
- a series of case studies - highlighting practical examples of providers with a wealth of experience in supporting learners with learning difficulties and disabilities in work-based learning
- seven briefing sheets - each highlighting a particular learning difficulty or disability, explaining how it may affect learners in work-based learning and signposting to more sources of information and support
2. Widgit software - for producing 'symbolised' text
Devon ACL has licences for two pieces of software produced by Widgit.
- 'In Print 2' - allows the user to create printed work such as handouts, information sheets, posters etc which include both text and the equivalent symbols. It is likely to be the more generally useful of the two packages. For a helpsheet, click the following link:
- Helpsheet on 'In Print 2' (42KB - pdf)
- Helpsheet on 'In Print 2' (42KB - pdf)
- 'SymWriter' - allows a tutor to create interactive drag-and-drop activities for learners to complete and is a bit more specialist.
