Professional standards from the LLUK
LLUK (Lifelong Learning UK) is the independent 'sector skills council' responsible for the professional development of all those working in adult education. As such they issue various items of information and guidance aimed at ensuring standards are met. Their website is http://www.lluk.org
LLUK produced the crucially-important LLUK professional standards document in 2006. This tells you what you, as a tutor, are expected to be able to do:

(Incidentally, the full name for this document is the 'New overarching professional standards for teachers, tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector'.)

These standards underpin current teaching qualifications. If your teacher/trainer qualification is from before Sept 2007, or is from another country, you will need to check that you are still qualified to teach under the new government regulations. Click below to find out more:
