Target Skills Gold
Devon ACL has a licence to use this web-based software for assessing learners' skills in English and Maths. There are two parts to this:
- Skills Check - a short exercise that has 24 questions and takes around 20 minutes. At the end it gives an indication of the 'level' at which the learner is working (Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2) but no further details.
- Initial Assessment - a more in-depth exercise that adjusts the questions as the learner works through it, in order to get a more detailed picture. This normally takes somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the way it adjusts. At the end it gives a detailed breakdown of the learner's level against the main curriculum points, using coloured bars.
Both the Skills Check and the Initial Assessment are offered in English and in Maths, though learners only need complete one or other if appropriate.

'Installed version' of Target Skills
Where no web access is possible, an alternative 'Installed version' of the software can be used in some circumstances. However, in this case the results need to be manually copied and pasted (eg to a Word document) or manually uploaded to an online database when back in a centre.
